“My life is the complete opposite of what I imagined it to be. I thought I would have a career in science, management or whatever. But deep down, I knew it wasn’t for me.”

Hi, Kelly! Welcome to Māgoa. We are so happy to present you to our online readers!

First of all, could you quickly introduce yourself in a few short sentences? Who you are, what you do at the moment and where are you from?

I am a human being doing my best at what I can offer to this world. I love photography and I’m lucky enough to be able to live off of my craft.

What first got you interested in being a photographer?

When I finished University, I didn’t like the direction my life was taking. I simply decided to follow my dream, I had no other plan. So, I made it happen!

How would you describe your beginnings in the creative field? Was this the career path you have always wanted or is it different from what you have imagined it to be?

My life is the complete opposite of what I imagined it to be. I thought I would have a career in science, management or whatever. But deep down, I knew it wasn’t for me. At one point, I had to listen and just let myself be who I really am.

What are the various elements that entice you to want to take a photo?

Beauty in everything that is and isn’t.

Are there any photographers who have particularly influenced you?

I absolutely love what Cass Bird offers as visuals. In my surrounding, I also admire Maude Arsenault. Not only for her art and photography, but also for the photography gallery she created.

What is the best thing you have experienced by being a photographer so far?

The best thing about my work is to be surrounded by amazing and talented people. And also being able to create fucking great images with these humans.

What would you like to see more of in the photography world?

Like in any work field, I would love to see the salary gap between sexes demolished.  As well, less genderization in the casting, style, makeup, etc.

How have you and your work evolved over your career as a photographer?

People were always my main interest/subject. I started with portraits but I’m slowing drifting towards fashion.

What’s next for you? Do you have any upcoming plans or projects you’d like to share with us?

I don’t know what’s next, nobody knows. But, one thing is for sure, happiness will be my foremost motivation.

Kelly, thank you very much for your time and answers. The best of luck with your career and upcoming projects.
